half time basketball game
Leisa Gould & Jeremy Duxfield
We went to a blaze basketball game on the Gold
Coast, and I got asked to do a competition at half
time, were they blind folded me and I had to find
the mascot. Instead I found my partner down on one knee with
the cheerleaders holding up a sign infront of everyone!
hidden candlelit cave
Anika Melville & Chris Barclay
My girlfriend had always had a massive fascination with waterfalls. It was in a place called Mitre Peak. The highest waterfall in New Zealand. After flying in by helicopter to the top of the waterfall we both abseiled down through the rushing water. A friend of mine in the tourism industry knew about a small cave that was about halfway down the waterfall behind and to one side of the water. I said to her, do you trust me and then both of us let go of the rocks swung inwards through the water and landed in the cave. I had my friend light candles half an hour before and he filled the cave with rose petals. While she stared in amazement I knelt on one knee behind her and said Marry me whilst holding the ring I had stowed in my wetsuit.
treasure hunt
Kate Patterson & Joshua Forward
fter leaving me at home & “to go to work” on a Saturday morning a convertable Mercedes pulled up the drive and a chaffauer stepped out dressed to the nines in a suit. I was given a series of 8 beautifully made invitations which contained clues/rhymes to find the way to the next stop. I was driven all over Christchurch on a treasure hunt for four hours. Finally, we ended up at Sign of the Takahe and Josh was in the garden on one knee with the most gorgeous diamond and gold ring I have ever seen - needless to point out I said yes!
11 diamonds on a private island
Chloe McGreal & Barry Kirkwood
The most romantic and blissful day of my life was New Years Eve 2010 when the love of my life, Barry proposed to me. It was a complete surprise when I was taken to a small airport on the Whitsundays and flown via helicopter over the glistening Coral Sea. We landed on a small deserted island called Langford Reef. The weather was perfect and we sat down and enjoyed a sumptuous champagne picnic lunch. Midway through the picnic Barry asked me to close my eyes. When I opened my eyes he was on bended knee on the sand – only the two of us and a sparkling diamond ring. He told me there were 11 diamonds in total especially for 2011. Of course I said “yes”. We both cannot wait for our Wedding on 24.03.2012 and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together.
exotic mountaintop chapel
Amy Walls & Bradley Gurd
We were on a cruise and stopped at the island of Lifou, New Caledonia. We walked up the mountain to a little chapel sitting on top. Whilst I was taking in the beautiful view, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was so shocked and burst into tears of joy and said yes! It was very romantic!
luxury fiji resort, audience of thousands
Shelly Kwan & Rana Saini
Rana proposed in Denarau Fiji Westin Resort. He had organised a private dinner table on the deck over the water with thousands of hotel guests looking out at us. At this point, I still had no idea. We haven't been together for even 2 years. He then went down on one knee and pulled out my dream ring, a tiffany legacy replica which he had a jeweler make in Sydney. He had a beautiful speech which had me in tears, and after I said yes, the fireworks went off. I panicked as he was proposing, all I could think of was my dad will be furious as they haven't actually met, luckily Rana had secretly asked my mum for her blessings.
football field stadium at half time
Ellie Parry & Mostyn Parry
We are members of the Brisbane Roar, and at the boxing day local derby between Brisbane and Gold Coast, he pulled me out onto the field telling me we'd been picked to play the half time games to win a prize. When it was my turn to kick, he pushed the ball out of reach, and in the pouring rain, got down on one knee and proposed to me in front of the whole stadium. I was speechless! But I managed to get a 'yes' out and the crowd cheered, including all of our friends and family who he had invited to the game :)
atop the franz joseph glacier
Sophie Poher & Andrew Sgarbossa
Andrew and I were in New Zealand, for another friend's wedding I was the maid of honour of. We took the opportunity to see the South Island for 1 week after the wedding. Andrew asked if I would be keen to see the Franz Joseph glacier. I said yes, thinking nothing of it. We took an helipcopter ride to the top of the glacier (amazing views, so special), then we landed and did a trek down the ice. Halfway through it, we went into a ice cave, and this is where he got on his knee and proposed. I of course cried, and the other people from our small group applauded. It was so romantic. I never thought he had it in him to plan something so beautiful. we called his mum soon after, and started receiving text messages two hours later. during that holiday, we went to a wedding, avoided an earthquake, and got engaged. One to remember for a long time :)
encased in a chocolate shell
Loretta Dorman & Fook Lee
Whilst strolling through our favourite park one starry evening I was presented with a miniature treasure chest. Inside it was filled with red rose petals and a Kinder Surprise Chocolate. I opened the Kinder Surprise, munched on some chocolate, then I cautiously (as I was a little suspicious) opened the capsule that would normally contain a little toy. Lo and behold, out popped a dazzling ring and my boyfriend dropped to his knee! He was so nervous he could barely speak but he didn’t need to. I said “Yes!” And the rest, they say, is history.
venice birthday surprise
Chelsea Stewart & Ryan Glowacki
We were on holidays in Venice when Ryan proposed. We had been on a ghost tour through the back streets and enjoyed a lovely dinner complete with house wine and walked back to the hotel. We then sat next to the canal, talking. Ryan asked if I wanted my birthday present. After careful consideration I said yes, even though my birthday was the following week. Ryan gave me a wrapped box and wished me happy birthday. As I was unwrapped the box and turned it over he said “...did I say happy birthday? I meant will you marry me?”; when I turned the box over a beautiful princess cut diamond was sitting in the box. Of course, I said yes!
NY, under rockerfeller plaza xmas tree
Sarah Travia & Sam Carton
New York, New York! After spending 5 weeks traveling through the US on a trip of a lifetime, Christmas time had already rolled by. We decided to spend Christmas Eve at Rockefeller Plaza and went to see the famous Christmas Tree. We asked a young couple to take a photo of us in front of the tree, the next thing I knew my no Fiance got down on bended knee and asked me to marry him, (we got a photo of that special moment too!) I couldn't believe it! Here we were in New York on Christmas Eve and the love of my life was asking me to marry him, All I could say was “Oh your so sweet” and eventually YES! Then I spotted the ring. Being a massive ”The OC” fan my fiance had purchased a replica ring of the ring Seth had proposed to Summer with! An eyeball ring, he couldn’t have done more! We spent the rest of the evening dazed with happiness strolling the chilly streets of New York. Boxing Day complete with snow, was spent engagement ring shopping, and we found the perfect one.
4500 feet up in a hot air balloon
Emma Reisinger & James Petersen
James woke me up on our 1yr anniversary at 3am and blind folded me, taking me on a mystery journey. We ended at Nerang Fair shopping complex car park and were picked up by a hot air balloon bus. He proposed to me at 4500 ft in the air, I was looking to the left and he was on my right. As I turned to look at him he was holding a little pink box, as I was thinking “really, is he going to propose? no way!” I said, “what's that?”not wanting to get my hopes up, in case it was just earrings. However, despite my doubts, he got down on one knee in the basket and popped the question. Of course, I said yes!
cinderella-style horsedrawn carriage
Natasha Maxwell & Julian Campos
While on a romantic holiday for our 3 year anniversary I was taken out for a beautiful dinner in a swish restaurant. Afterwards I walked outside expecting a taxi, there waiting for us was a horse and carriage - I felt like Cinderella. Thinking that was the “surprise” I was overwhelmed with emotion which only got worse when my amazing fiance attempted to get on bended knee (while the carriage was moving) and asked to take my hand in marriage. It was a magical night that I will never forget!
paris : )
Sherie Tainer & Beau Jackson
Paris, River Seine Cruise , Eiffel Tour light show :) i was lucky enough to get that :)
six gifts
Alyssa Barrett & James Cordwell
We had booked in a Story Bridge Climb with some vouchers I had bought for his birthday, he told me to pack a pretty dress and afterwards surprised me by taking me to the Mariott Hotel. I was a little confused but so surprised I didn’t think anything of it. We checked into our room and I started getting ready for dinner, when I came out of the bathroom I saw that there were 6 presents laying on the bed. He had a big grin on his face and made me open them one after the other (each present represented a significant part of our relationship), as I opened the last present I looked up and he was on one knee, I was so happy I mumbled a yes and burst out crying! It was absolutely perfect and dinner was sensational!
fiji dream date
Alyssa Barrett & James Cordwell
It was our final day in Fiji, and we started off my scuba diving off the reef, then came back to a surprise couples day spa appointment. Though when we walked out the sky was black and rain was imminent and Dave was shattered, so I figured we were going to eat outside! For the next two hours while I lazed about the hotel he paced in and out and I still had no idea what was about to happen! Dinner time came and we walked down to the restaurant where the manager met us and said 'I think I know which table is for you' and walked us down to the waters edge where there was one table, covered in tiny pink flowers, and surrounded by candles and lanterns. Next I found out we had our own waiter for the night, and I was still trying to wipe away the tears when our own Fijian band came down to sing just for us all night. Dessert came around and before I could say 'but this isn't want I ordered', Dave was down on one knee and all the hotel staff were out on the balcony cheering! It was truely an amazing day.
20 year wait
Louise Santangeli & Anthony Marinac
We met when I was 16, Anthony 17, but our parents didn’t approve and banned us from seeing each other, after only 9 months together we split up. 20 years later he contacted me on Facebook and we hit it off immediately. He used to write me letters when we were younger and so on the day be proposed he wrote me a letter and dropped it in my letter box. I had instructions to be ready by 11am. I was taken to a hotel at Mt Tamborine where I got dressed in my new dress and shoes that he had bought the week before. Then I was taken to a winery where Anthony was waiting with a dozen roses and a gorgeous ring. He got down on one knee and asked to be his wife and I said yes. After 20 years of dating all the wrong men, I finally got the one I should have had to start with.
private beachfront dinner
Lisa Button & Nathan Shepherd
After a meal at a favourite restaurant of ours, my boyfriend leads me for a walk along the beach. In the distance I notice a pedestal, draped in white cloth, blowing in the breeze, topped with a large vase of red roses. I point out the beautiful setup, remarking on its location with the sun setting behind it and comment ‘how beautiful does that look, I wonder if someone is going to propose there tonight?’ My boyfriend makes a casual offhand comment about it and changes the subject. As we walk level with the site my, boyfriend pulls on my hand and wanders towards the vase. I hesitate and point out we should not intrude onto someone else’s special spot. Next thing I know my ‘future fiancé’ is down on one knee with a ring in his hand. My surprise and delight cannot be put into words, it was perfect.
hot air balloon and aqua golf
Ali Martin & Haydon Gillon
My fiance had given me a hot air balloon voucher for my 21st birthday and had organised to go out to the hunter valley vineyards the next morning where we had our perfect hot air balloon ride followed by an amazing champagne breakfast. As it was still early in the morning Hayden suggested we go to have a game of aqua golf before we head home so he took me to the park across from aqua golf and we sat together while we were waiting for them to open. After being there for 10 minutes I suggested we go over and play now where he stopped me and got onto one knee and said “I have one more birthday present for you” and then came “Ali Martin will you marry me?” The most amazing day of my life :)
tuscan garden
Taegan Coddington & Matthew Ballantine
My Fiancé, Matt, and I were in Florence. Matt suggested we travel to a small Tuscan town called, San Gigminano. He was acting strange all day, as we walked the cobblestone streets, eating Gelato and taking in our amazing surroundings. Matt found this private garden which overlooked the rolling hills of Tuscany. He was so excited he literally dragged me in there, as we strolled around the garden we listened to these two men singing while playing their guitars. It was amazing, I’ve dreamt of seeing Tuscany since I was a little girl. After walking around, he suddenly stopped me, sitting me down on a bench, he got down on one knee holding this ring towards me, he asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him. If that was not enough he said to me, when we go to Venice how about we pick our real engagement ring, together.
venice gondola
Lucy Leland & Jeff Horner
On a gondola in Venice, in a quiet narrow canal, he pulled a ring from his pocket and asked me if I'd marry him.
…and what these proposals lack in bells
and whistles, they make up for in love…
Mareldene Hole & Eric Posthuma
In june last year Eric was in a serious accident sustaining severe injuries including becoming a quadriplegic. He was in a coma for 2 weeks with doctors telling me he wouldn’t make it, but I knew he would. For the first 3 weeks after waking he couldn’t talk and clicked to communicate with us but he tried every day to breath on his own and talk and in July he finally started talking. After asking me several times if I wanted to leave him he finally figured out I wasn’t going anywhere and loved him more than ever, on the first day he could sit upright in his bed he celebrated by asking me to marry him and of course I said yes!
Pru Nolan & Shaun Fenn
We found out I had cancer a few weeks before my partner deployed to Malaysia for 3 months with the army. I missed him so much and was so scared! I kept dreaming that I woke with his ring on my finger. After my surgery he was granted special leave and flew me out to Langkawi to see him. We went out for dinner and he had decorated a corner of an open-air beachside restaurant with silk and candles. We ate lobster, champagne and they played music beside our table. I felt like a princess! I was excited but confused when he didn't propose. Drinks up on our balcony.. still ne proposal. I was so disappointed! Bedtime. I woke at 3am and found a ring on my finger!! He had slipped it on while I was sleeping! He wanted to make my dreams come true and he did!
Jessica Persijn & Christiaan Gscheidle
Two months into our relationship, Christiaan and I were confronted with the sudden death of my mother. In the next four years, he supported me through the emotional pain and anguish that comes from losing a parent. His love for me never wavered under the hardest of circumstances. Christiaan proposed to me at a B and B that had been our respite on a number of occasions. He printed the words of E. E. Cummings’ poem, ‘I Carry your Heart with Me,’ on cards and had me read them aloud. At the end of the poem he proposed and presented me with a ring, with the words, ‘I carry your heart in my heart’ engraved on the inside. He truly has carried my heart for the last five years and whilst I may have lost my mum I was lucky enough to be sent another angel in return.
Melissa Smith & Nathan Duddington
I took advantage of the only official day that a girl can ask a boy to marry her - the 29th Feb 2008. When I arrived home, my partner was sitting in our driveway playing with our beautiful dog Charlie. I handed him a gorgeous bunch of red roses, which I had hidden behind my back. He was so taken aback by the gesture, but not as much as when I handed him a small box. "What's all this for? Why am I being so spoilt?". I told him to open the box & read the inscription. He mouthed quietly, "It says marry me". "Well?" I said. The answer was of course. Now, 3 years later we have set the date, with our amazing 9mth old baby boy to be his best man! |
