Last Night Pina Fiorenza accepted awards in three categories at the Qld Brides Design Awards and Expo in Brisbane. Pina will be at the expo all weekend on the Fiorenza Collections for Brides booth with Marion and Lyndsay. Come down to the convention centre and see them. There are more parades all weekend too.

Classique Award:

Antoinette had its stage debut and was just adored by the crowd! (it is from the new 2012 Fiorenza Collection which will be in stores soon!)

Couture Award:

Mylie drew gasps from the crowd and was clearly a crowd favourite. Mylie first debuted at this year's MBFF fashion festival in Brisbane & Sydney.

People's Choice Award:

Julia never cease's to capture the attention of brides-to-be and fashionistas as is evident by it being selected for an award by the people!

Eternal Bridal is now Victoria’s newest, and largest, stockist of award-winning bridal gowns by renowned label Fiorenza.

The boutique, which is located in Brunswick’s iconic Sparta Place precinct, will showcase an array of gowns from Pina Fiorenza’s 20th Anniversary and Signature Collections from late August.

Eternal Bridal owner Lyndell Ye said Fiorenza offers discerning brides the luxury of designer gowns – without the price usually seen on gowns of such exquisite quality.

“Pina has a unique understanding of what looks and feels beautiful; she offers women a European style that’s at the forefront of global fashion design,” Ms Ye said.

Having grown up in Melbourne as a fourth generation designer, Ms Fiorenza developed an appreciation of the sophisticated and design-savvy eye of local women.

FIORENZA LAUNCHES THE NEW LOOK AT MBFF

INSPIRED BY DIOR

Pina Fiorenza will unveil a range of couture gowns at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival inspired by Christian Dior’s revolutionary ‘New Look’ of the late 1940’s.

In designing the collection, the veteran Brisbane designer said she was enchanted by a pivotal moment in fashion history, when Dior’s extravagant designs caused a frenzied attack on models in Paris during the post war period.

“Dior was showing one of his first, lavish collections in a Parisian market; war rations had deprived the world of beauty, and desire for luxury garments was so great, women became crazed with lust for the incredible fabrics and shapes,” Pina said.

“Overwhelmed by what they were seeing, they ripped the dresses off the models and ran off with the priceless designs.”

The incident was a major scandal of the time, and sparked a renewed interest in extravagant fashion, putting Paris back on the international fashion map.

“Coco Chanel was appalled, and even Dior’s mentor Cristobal Balenciaga said he’d gone too far,” Pina said.

But Dior’s designs marked a move away from war time austerity, towards a bright new period of voluptuous shapes and incredible fabrics, and a swift change in sentiment soon saw him celebrated by Harper’s Bazaar editor Carmel Snow for heralding a ‘New Look’ in fashion.

Pina says her MBFF collection celebrates that iconic, frenetic moment in a Paris market, and takes inspiration from Dior’s “beautiful silhouettes, excessive design and lavish fabric”.

“As an industry, we’ve seen a lot of cost-cutting and paring back in recent years, and I want this collection to remind us of the reasons why we do fashion,” Pina said.

Having only just moved back into her gutted studio following the January floods, Pina said the tumultuous start to the year gave her a renewed sense of excitement when designing the collection.

“I wanted to have an incredible amount of fun with form, fabric and embellishments,” Pina said.

“The theatrics of fashion at the catwalk level is incredibly euphoric; when my designs are on the catwalk, I want them to say ‘forget austerity, forget about what’s happened, it’s a new day, and we’re here to revel in an extravagant fantasy – even if it’s just for a brief moment’.”

Known for her two decades in bridal design, Pina said the catwalk collection would feature avante guarde bridal creations, as well as a series of bespoke eveningwear gowns from Fiorenza Evening, which was launched this year.

“It’s all about dramatic, voluptuous shapes in rich, thick silk embroidery, silk chiffon, masses of tulle, heavily beaded French lace and silk organza,” she said.

“There’s also a tribute to Balenciaga, who famously spent three years perfecting a sleeve; I love that level of obsession,” Pina said.

I flew over to Melbourne for his graduation ceremony and at the end in his ceremonial Navy whites, in front of his entire graduation class, guests and news crews Luke got down on one knee and very romantically proposed. I was so overwhelmed as I had no idea of Luke's intentions that it wasn't until later in the evening during celebrations that I remembered to check it was real, being April fool's day. Later that evening we appeared on the news which only added to our very special day. Luke truly is the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with, our hearts belong entwined together, forever!"

Their winning proposal story: "Mike and I had planned a trip to Thailand for a month. On the evening of Valentine’s Day he took me for a walk along the beach where we stumbled across a whole lot of tables and beanbags set up right on the beach. After a few cocktails he gave me a gift which was a book in which he had written down all of our beautiful memories together. After I had finished reading the book I was very teary and that’s when Mikey got down on not one, but two knees and asked me to be his wife!!"

I fell in love with the idea of 4 bright colored roses - red, pink, orange and yellow, for the brides maids. I also took inspiration in the simple elegance of Sirromet and tried to bring that through with all my wedding planning and arrangements. I also loved how my wedding gown seemed to have an "old world" elegance which I tried to carry through where possible. So in the end I think we ended up with a wedding inspired simple eleganance that had a slight antique feel and Daniel both agreed we wanted our guests to feel pampered and spoilt. We had lilac dresses for the bridesmaids and a single rose in their hair, the groomsmen had matching lilac ties black suits and ivory shirts, Daniel had an ivory silk tie to match my dress, rose petals of the above colors sprinkled down the isle and around the tables which were dressed in crisp white linen with candelabras and lots of tea light candles.

Kinga and Nigel were married in St John’s Cathedral, which Nigel's grandfather worked on as an architect. He was responsible for designing the ornate wood carvings that decorate the cathedral, which gave special significance to the location that Nigel chose to pledged his commitment to Kinga. Kinga walked down the aisle music composed by her father, especially for her big day. Her Fiorenza gown was a of special significance, as Pina is a family friend and was on hand to personally fit Kinga into her gown.

Growing up, I never imagined what I would wear to my wedding. After we announced our engagement, I had two criteria for choosing my wedding dress; it was not to be strapless, and I didn't want any volume in the skirt! Well, as things turned out, Colleen at Bridal on James selected a dress that she thought would suit me, I instantly adored it. I loved the lines of the dress, the unusual circular pleating and the spectacular, unusual blue bow. I grew up loving blue (my Mother was infatuated with the colour) so the bow was just perfect.

“We decided we wanted our wedding to be romantic and fun. Alan and I have been together for nearly 12 years and have a little girl Ilana who was 10 months old at the time of our wedding. Our wedding was organised in 3 months so we were very fortunate to find a dress and venues at such short notice; but couldn't be happier with the result. The reception at Villa Pourzand is decorated in fifteenth Century Renaissance Florence which I thought capture the mood of the wedding, the dress and us perfectly. We kept the formalities to a minimum and went with a cocktail style reception. My makeup was done by Lily Costanzo from Lily Makeup Co and my hair was by Marie-Claire Dowling. Everyone who attended had a brilliant time and our day went off without a hitch.”

As Karla traveled to the lighthouse, clouds came over, giving a mystical feeling to the ceremony. As the couple said their vows, rays of light broke through the clouds and dolphins jumped out of the water, as if it on cue! Carl proposed with a stunning ring in the snow-covered surrounds of Arthur’s Pass in New Zealand and the couple chose a completely different setting for their wedding, with a “summer romance” theme. A pallette of aqua, white and peach represented sea, summer and love. Inna’s dress was an A-symmetrical design in dupion silk encrusted with crystals & pearls on the bodice and soft tulle pleats.

Ange says her inspiration was a “free-flowing beachy feel”, which included a special shell ceremony. “During the ceremony, guests brought shells up to a glass bowl and placed the shell in it while they made a wish for us; that bowl and all the shells within is now the centre piece for the table in our lounge room,” Ange says.
